– book of the month was Kirsteen by Margaret Oliphant (1828-1897). Set in the Scottish Highlands, Kirsteen was the second daughter of the impoverished Laird of Drumcarro, who had pride in his many sons though his daughters counted for little. ...............

We all enjoyed the story, which we found easy to read (even making sense of those old Scottish words) and discussed, among other things, the subservience of women, their lack of education and opportunity and the strong pride in family heritage.

If you’d like to join us, we meet on the third Monday of the month at members’ homes – contact Cheryl on 0427 776 629 for further details.
