Black Swan Theatre

Our latest visit to State Theatre was for Black Swan’s “Day (After Day) in the Life of the Useless”.  The title suggest monotony and that’s sort of sums up how we felt about the play.  Will O’Mahony both wrote and played the lead role in the play and it’s described on the website as hilarious.  We missed that!!!

Pete (the main guy) has been dumped days before the wedding.  She describes him as a robot.  He is obviously deeply affected by this breakup and turns to AI for advice and is told in 1.49 seconds “The best revenge is living well”. At the same time he loses his job so has no money.  He tries  to take AI’s advice but in his attempt spirals through outrageous encounters, disastrous goals set by himself and bad luck. He loses track of what’s real and what isn’t.  We found it too long and we all failed to come to grips with the characters, even though we understood what O’Mahony was trying to say
