John Forrest Wildflower and ElevatedBoardwalk

Bright and shiny, steelwork and some scaffolding glistened in the sunlight as the raised walkway curved its way up the hill – not quite to the top, workmen still operating machinery shifting dirt and boulders. Being up in the air certainly put a different perspective on the ground below; the creek trickling between greenery (weeds) on one side, smooth granite on the other. Not a lot of colour to be seen; new shelters on the picnic ground. Reaching ground level three folk wandered down beside Jane Brook, crossing to the other side making a circuit of part of the stream; two, not as energetic, reached the old swimming pool before retracing their steps all disappointed at the state of the once abundant and thriving local shrubs (planted) on the southern side of the stream, now with large patches of dead shrubs strewing the ground. And then there were three who started off up the hills on the northern side tackle the Wildflower Walk, once again we took the wrong path, admiring the brook tumbling along, double back to the start. Once out of the denser forest the wildflowers were beautiful, pink myrtle was abundant, hibbertia- vibrant, spots of leschenaultia, milkmaids and much more.
