-  It was a wild, windy and rainy morning as we set off.  We had our quota of ten enthusiastic, well mostly, Spokes for the occasion.  We are a well oiled operation these days and the favourite volunteers according to the organizer.  There were over 400 runners from very young to not so young, from the ultra fit to the less likely.  However, they all make it over the line at the end of their chosen distance.  They are greeted with smiles, congratulations, medals and cheers by the Wheelies and their families and friends.  Loud boom, boom, boom “music” adds to the atmosphere.  There were a few hairy moments this morning as angry gusts of wind lifted gazebos and signage, blew sand into our eyes and sent leaves scattering.  But then before we knew the sun was out again and patches of blue sky.  We always enjoy our doughnut treat at the end of our time.  Looking forward to next time in January.
